For the February issue of Men’s Journal, we headed to London to spend time with cover guy and Glass star James McAvoy, one of Hollywood’s most talented—and unique—leading men.
After McAvoy starred as Kevin Wendell Crumb in Split, a character inhabited by over 20 different personalities, McAvoy’s back in the same role for the M. Night Shyamalan sequel. In our new cover story, McAvoy spoke about his process for preparing for the thriller, including how he bulked up for the film by working with personal trainer Magnus Lygdback, who McAvoy described as a “Swede who looks like a Viking…who looks like he’s about to pillage your village.”
McAvoy’s roles run the gamut from period pieces (Atonement, Becoming Jane), to serious dramas (The Last King of Scotland), superhero films (Glass and the X-Men series), action thrillers (Wanted, Atomic Blonde), and even a few comedies (Starter for 10, Gnomeo and Juliet), and he already has a busy 2019 ahead of him.
Following Glass, McAvoy will star in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, where he reprises his role as Professor X, and It: Chapter Two, playing the older version of the main character Bill Denbrough.
